Rain on the windshield
Does anyone know of a way to stop the rain from running down the back of the windshield?

Re: Rain on the windshield
It does not completely stop it but, if you slit a clear length of vinyl tubing, 1/4" ID - 3/8" OD, lengthwise and slip it over the top edge of your windshield it will minimize it. The tubing stays put and you do not need to adhere it to the shield in any way. Just make sure it is fully inserted on the windshield.

Re: Rain on the windshield
Thanks, I'll certainly give that a try.
The back of the windshield and the toes of my boots are the only problems I have.
I was considering filing the lip of the shield to a thin edge so the water wouldn't have as much surface tension.

Re: Rain on the windshield
The more sloped back the windshield, the worse this problem is. The idea is to flip the rain up and away instead of letting it dribble up over the edge. The Windbender windshields do this well, as they have the little flip "lip" on the top. For others, the weatherstrip trick shown here works reasonably well. But a lot of it depends on speed and how heavy the rain is.
I find that using hydrophobic coatings on both the front and back of the windshield helps, so that when drops of rain DO get on the back, they slip and run down quickly instead of just sitting there.

Re: Rain on the windshield
Since my first post I applied RainX for plastic on both sides and it has improved the situation quite a bit. Since then I haven't been out in rain to try the clear tube idea.

Saeng/TA Micro Swirl windscreen edging.....Fits over the edge of windshield and channels water down and out the bottom edge of windshield. Easy to install and remove is necessary. Buy by the foot. Only practical solution. Also disrupts air flow over windshield to decrease buffeting.

Re: Rain on the windshield
The windshield is not an issue for me because I look over the shield and not through it.
The wet toes issue I can relate to though. I looked and see you have an 89 1500. I had a later model SE that had the heat vents down low throwing heat on my feet from the exhaust. If it rained I would open these and not only did that little deflection keep my feet dry, I think the heat did too. I know you don't have this but it is a little thing that others may find useful.

It is a pretty good product but a bit pricey. I'm cheap so I have used the clear vinyl tubing for the last 20+ years with great results. And, in the off chance it is lost or needs to be replaced, the tubing is really available everywhere for pennies per foot.

Black door edge guard works for me. Makes the rain lift into the air and away in Oregon where it rains alot.

Re: Rain on the windshield
Regarding the remarks about Rain-X here - isn't Rain-X harmful to a plastic windshield? Supposedly it etches / crizzles it over a short time. I put a tall (34 inch) Slipstreamer windshield on my 97 1500, and because of its back-slope, rain does not blow off it, it just accumulates in drops on it . And - it does not go over the top, either. I added a wiper (that I only use in 1-sweep bursts when the screen is wet, and it gives me restored vision. Notice I say 1-sweep bursts, as I don't want the wiper scratching my expensive windshield, either!

There is a Rain-X for plastic that is safe to use and works as advertised.piekielrl wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 6:45 pm Regarding the remarks about Rain-X here - isn't Rain-X harmful to a plastic windshield? Re: Rain on the windshield
I have the same problem,
Not really a cure, more of a relief, I keep a short bathroom shower glass wiper, the "T" shaped thing with a wiper blade on it. I keep it tucked under the straps of the left glove box and pull it out and wipe when needed. Usually one occaisional wipe is enough

Re: Rain on the windshield
I discovered a few yrs ago about the rainx for plastic. It does a great job on both sides. Only time it doesn't do so well is on light mist or fog.
