Thank you Topgun. My impression is that its mostly Dunlop marketing strategy.
Are the tire weight ratings calculated by dividing the total weight of bike by 2 ,each tire handling half. My 93 weighs 1280lbs plus me, 225, so tires need to be rated to handle 750 each?

The weight distribution usually isn't 50/50. There is typically more weight on the rear.

I just put EV4 on my GL1500, kicks ass! My very particular friend with a Victory, also uses them.

Just has to put an american elite on the front of my 1500 as elite 4's are on backorder in canada since mid june. So far it seems to work OK with the elite 4 on the rear

I put the American Elite on the front of my 1500. One thing I noticed is that while it is pretty quiet when going straight, when cornering and laid over a bit it makes some noise.

Re: Dunlop Elite 4 vs Dunlop American Elite
Dunlop American Elite is a bias tire not a radial. There is one company selling them as a radial listed on their web site, but in the picture it shows as a bias ply tire. Ok for the 1500s but not for the 1800s. I came close to buying a 180 70 16 tire for my 2005 before I noticed the 70R was missing and further inspected the sidewall.
