Elec. contact enhancement?

Post by FM-USA »

Living near a large body of water our humidity is always up. Plays havoc with general rust but also oxidization of electrical connections.
Curious if anyone actually knows of a inexpensive grease or paste that truly enhances the contact?
.
Just wondering & haven't tried this. Will mixing a grease or paste with fine ground copper or aluminum (dependent on electrical contact material) enhance the connection & offer corrosion protection?
.
Currently I'll use either petroleum jelly or silicone caliper lube, dependent if it's near heat.
If I have it near I'll use copper or aluminum Anti-Seize but after a while it's messy due to the oil.

LPS 1 is what you want to use.
Hondaman Mark Paris on the SOHC/4 forum tells of his being in charge of drilling operations upkeep and there being problems of corrosion in the electrical connectors, there were others before him that used the company's recommended solution which would fail shortly. He started using the LPS 1 on the connectors and there were no more problems with the same units for multiple years. Only use their LPS 1. Nothing else.

That LPS-1 looks like some good stuff.

After searching a bit I also found references to a CRC QD electronic cleaner. They sound similar. Any major differences or preferences for the use of one over the other?

I've used the CRC and it's not the same.

Seems like eons we've had quick disconnect plugs & nearly always any moisture would corrode them.
One would think there would be a cost affective solution to this issue long ago.
Looks like I'll fine file shaving some copper & aluminum scrap & add it to each base of Anti-Seize to make a firm grease/paste.

I always put some silicone lube in connectors before I put them back together, keeps corrosion out of it and makes it easier to disconnect in the future.

Honda has had dielectric grease for connectors for ages.
I use a similar Dow Corning product.
The grease needs to be non-conductive so there are no shorts between pins. All you want is to protect the contacts from the elements.
Silicone grease is typically plastic safe, but some mineral based grease can destroy plastic connectors.
