Valkyrie 6 carb upgrade to electric throttle?

Post by shiver22 »

Hi I've looked into the Valkyrie 6 carb and cams to install in a gl1500. I'm wondering if there is a way to control them using a stand-alone ecu after syncing them to try to use it as a poor woman's cfi? I am looking at connecting a turbo and since they can be found all over my area for cheap, is it a solution? Yes I'm looking for a fuel injected 1800 if I can but I'm going to be pushing the revs up most of the time that I'm told carbs work well for. I'm wondering if I really need to change to fuel injection? It seems like the 6 carb setup should work as well as any fuel injection and way better then a 2 barrel cfi for making power. I'm a computer engineer and even though I am not sure how a carb jet is different from an injector. It seems from my non mechanic head that they basically do the same thing. If the electronic circuit board could be hacked to be used with an ecu then what's the difference? There is a electronic throttle controller from what I've read that acts like an ecu. Can a ecu replace it?

It just occurred to me that the carbs on the Valkyrie might be electronic throttle already since it has a controller?

I would appreciate details on why I'm wrong so I can understand why.

What you are trying to do is intriguing

I rode one day with best friend on his Wing, a Valkyrie with an off duty deputy sheriff on it and a few other bikes, with a couple of off duty state highway patrol on them
At our last gas stop everyone told me that I should lead as I rode in the back all day. My friend talked them into that I found out later.
Not sure if the Valkyrie filled his tank up or not, couldn’t have is what I say
Because about 27 miles of blasting in left lane of interstate the deputy pulled up next to me and said he needed gas. Lucky for him we were taking next exit for gas and to split up to head home. He put 5 gallons in his 5.5 tank.
State highway fellows asked if I rode that fast all the time, I said "Oh NO officers but it is a Wing and it will fly"
They stopped me in my work semi a few times over the next month just to remind me to slow down. I laughed
And still laugh to this day as I followed them that day watching them doing burn outs, wheelies, drag racing from stop signs & traffic lights and I was the bad guy for going over the posted speed limit on the interstate..... I figured 4 of them had badges out of 6 what are the odds

Hope your Valkrie gets better mileage than the one I rode with
Have fun

I have a 1994 Goldwing and a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate. They get about the same gas mileage. See the link below for the Valkyrie Rider's Cruisers Club Shop Talk page. There's some carb info there. :)

You can find a used magnacharger for Valks, prices used to be around 3500 for a ready to go unit, I realize a super charger isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it is a tried and proven setup.
there a number of youtube videos of Valks with them.

I had 2 1500 Valks, great bikes, they do like to drink the gasoline though, 97 had a two Brothers 6 into 6, it sounded glorious.
