finding year of manf

I was just wondering how you can tell what year a wing is. Does the vin # tell you, or do you have to run the # to find out? :?:

There is a plate pinned to the steering head. Tells model and year of mfg. The vin # also reflects the model and year of mfg but I'm not sure how to read it on the 1100. But I think the 10th digit designates the year of mfg. As in a/80, b/81, c/82 and d/83. Someone here will know for sure.

Dingdong is correct, the 10th digit of the VIN does indeed indicate the year of manufacture. Rather than reproduce it here, there is a decode table on wiki that provides all the possible years and also explains some of the other characters used in the VIN.

Note that this applies to all vehicles manufactured since 1981, not just motorcycles, so you can use it on cars and trucks too!

Hope that helps!
