Break in period
I'm sure this subject has been addressed before but I am new to this forum. I am wondering about the break-in period for a 2008 GL1800. I am purchasing one in Anaheim, Ca. that has 400 miles on it. I plan to ride it approx. 400 miles to my home in the SF Bay area. Good/Bad idea? Any info greatly appreciated.

Re: Break in period
The GL1800 manual is fairly brief about the break-in period. It says:
Help assure your motorcycle’s future reliability and performance by paying
extra attention to how you ride during the first 300 miles (500 km).
During this period, avoid full-throttle starts and rapid acceleration.
Even though it's outside what they say is the break-in period, if it were my bike, I'd probably follow that advice for the first thousand miles or so. I'd also try to not sit at sustained engine speeds (i.e. freeway travel) for long periods of time, instead riding places where the engine speed was varying, and I had to shift up and down.
