95 1500 air turbulence

I am having a problem with air blowing on my back when I ride. The wing seems to blow harder on my back than it does coming from the front. I bought a taller windsheild which helps the wind from the front. Also I use air wings for the side which keep the air off my passengers legs. Do the deflectors that you can mount on the windsheild help or is there any other suggestions. Thanks.

It's a very common problem. The windshield moves the air up and out of your way, so you don't get a blast of wind in your face. However, as soon as the air moves past you, there is a large low-pressure area right behind you, that sucks the airflow down. It curls around and hits you in the back:

Several things will change the force and amount of air: width, height and rake (angle) of the windshield. At a lower rake angle, the relative wind will not be pushed up as high, and while it will spare your back from wind turbulence, it will beat up your passenger fairly good.

I found that putting a tall Slipstreamer windshield on my 1100, which is quite a bit taller AND wider than stock, eliminated the turbulent air for me, and reduced the turbulence significantly for my passenger.

I put on a Tulsa tall windshield but that did not help.

The wind is still going to smack you in the backside. You've created a larger "bubble" than stock, and the vacuum is allowing an eddie to fill it in. I have the same problem with my 1100 with the large wrap-around. I lessened my problem by fitting the windshield with a GL1800 vent. If it's cold, I can close it enough to not hit me in the chest, but to fill in the vacuum somewhat or the burble comes back.

Do you have a windshield vent?

No, I never really used it with my old windshield so I did not get one with the new shield. I did save the old one so maybe I will puti it back on and try the vent.

Really? Which one did you put on the 1100? I replaced my stock windshield (which did create a fair amount of turbulence hitting my back, as well as some wind around the sides) with the tall/wide Slipstreamer, and I have virtually zero wind while riding now. Also a lot less turbulence for my passenger as well, particularly on her helmet.

I made a few changes that have helped a lot. First I opened the small vents in the dash to let more air. Also I covered the air vents on the outside to redirect more warm air to my legs. This has helped a great deal. Also the wife said she could feel the heat and noticed a difference in the turbulence. Of course I will have to open the outside vents during warm weather so as not to over heat. In warm weather there will be more vents open so that should help also.
