best fuel for 82 1100

Post by bluejohnson »

;) I m sure this has been asked over n over but I can't find the answer thru ur seach so i ll ask.

what is the best fuel, octane-wise, for an 82 1100? i had heard these carb's don't like or respond well to 87 octane. or should i find an ethanol free fuel?

no rush cause I still need to follow your fantasticly detailed sync instructions before i can ride my newly purchased bike with barely 20k miles on it.

thanks. I may have to sleep here often to be able to get this bike running properly. :D

Nothing wrong with 87 octane fuel, 1100's will run perfectly on it all day long.

Here is a photo I just took of a page from my owners manual that came with the bike that states gasoline octane requirements.

In case you cant read it ,it says

"Any automotive gasoline with a pump octane number ( R+M/2 ) of 86 or higher, or a research octane number of 91 or higher may be used. If knocking or pinging occurs, try a different brand of gasoline or higher octane grade."

Hope this doesnt infringe on any copyright laws if so let me know and I can delete the pic.

Any brand of E10 regular gas will do fine... Just remember to ALWAYS use an ethanol friendly (like StaBil Marine formula) fuel stabilizer IN EVERY TANKFULL ... this way the fuel will be less likely to "phase" during periods of sitting in the garage waiting for you to take her out, and cause fuel system damage.. Also keep fuel tank "topped off" to prevent atmospheric moisture related problems from introducing water (from condensation on inside of fuel tank walls where they are exposed from low fuel levels) into your fuel.

Many discussions here on GW Docs about E10 fuel and it's use in GW's... As long as your engine doesn't "ping" on acceleration, the regular gas will be just fine.. approximate MPG should be in the 40's.....

Good luck,

Rich
