what do I do first

Post by glasshead »

As soon as the weather warms up I plan to change the timing belts, adjust the carbs and re adjust the valves on my 83 Interstate. What order should I do them in?
Thanx

I'd start with the belts, then while all my marks were lined up and checked, I'd do the valves and lastly the carbs; but thats me ..

The reason for the order in the previous post is you want to do the valves COLD, and after everything is buttoned up, warm the engine and do the carbs after the engine is up to operating temp for best results.

I should be saying that I will wait for warm weather here to work on the plan, but it is 53 degrees here today. Unfortunately, I winterized the bike the first part of Dec when temps. were in the low 30's. It is NEVER this warm in January here. :x :x

Thanx for the info. I'll wait to start when I KNOW the nice weather is here to stay.
