Converting a GL1000 to an 1100?

Post by 77wing »

I recently bought a 77 GL1000 that had been sitting for several years and found that # 3 cylinder has rust in it and probably stuck rings. I am weighing my options at this point weather to look for an engine, rebuild the top end on this one, or look for a bigger engine... the bike only has 40K on it.

Not saying that it can't be done, but there are lots of little changes in locations of items, sizes of items and so on that will have you welding tabs and cutting metal, if you decide to put a bigger engine in.

I'd probably go for the "source a new (to me) GL1000 engine" route.
