GL-1500 EZ Steer 4 Degree Rake Kit

Post by TheChief »

I am in the process of doing my normal "Post Tax Refund" winter maintenance and upgrades to my 2000 GL1500 Voyager Trike and today I learned something that I just couldn't wait to pass along.

The issue is with the Hawg Halters rake kit.
For a little background, I've rebuilt fork tubes and done front spring upgrades on a Wing before, and I have the Honda Fork Bolt Assembly Tool 07KMF-MT20300 for removing the tube caps.

The deal here is you cannot use the Honda tool to install the tube extensions that come with the rake kit. The problem is the extensions are so long you cannot get a wrench into the tool to thread the extension into the fork tube.

Another minor point is this kit does not include O-Rings for the extensions..

Beyond that, the kit is well made, the kit includes new bearings and races, and the lower bearing and dust seal are already installed (YEAY!!!).

I should have a ride report in the next few days.

Never got it installed. Turns out the front end was tweaked to the left just enough to let the fork tube hit the half moon brace that holds the front faring bits on. Funny thing is with the stock triple tree every thing is fine, but I can tell the front end is tweaked...

I fitted a Hawg rake kit to my outfit without much difficulty, changing the head race bearings was the worst part (made my own tool for the job in the end).
Well worth the effort. Bike much easier to steer.
The only disappointment is the steering lock no longer works as the lug on the top yoke is missing.
