Chronicles of a Motorcycle Gypsy: South of the Border

Post by WingAdmin »

You might recall I wrote about author/motorcyclist Tiffani Burkett about a year ago, when I reviewed her first book, Chronicles of a Motorcycle Gypsy: The 49 States Tour

She was an inexperienced rider who decided to take on life: she quit her job, outfitted her little FZ-07 for long-distance travel, and rode across the US and back, camping along the way - by herself.

But that wasn't enough: She then decided she needed to hit all 49 states (and Canada!), and did so through snow, rain, mud and worse.

After this, she then rode down to the Panama Canal and back! She chronicled some of her travels in an article series for the now-defunct Motorcyclist Magazine.

Last year she published her first book detailing her trip across the US and Canada.

This month, she published her second book: Chronicles of a Motorcycle Gypsy: South of the Border

As you can expect, this book covers the second part of her trip, where she rode through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and more - all the way to the southernmost tip of North America, in Panama - and back again! And as you can expect, travelling on a motorcycle through third-world countries has some interesting challenges, and fascinating stories.

Tiffani is an excellent writer. She has a way of pouring out her thoughts intermixed with the experiences, that really makes you feel like you're along for the ride. She intersperses it with subtle, often self-deprecating humor and jabs that often had me cracking up. She really has a unique (and sometimes hilarious) view on the world, and you feel like you're viewing it through her eyes.

Her first book, while widely praised for its storytelling, did have a bit of an issue with some editing gaffes. No such problems with her latest book, which grabbed me so intensely and sucked me in that I virtually ignored Thanksgiving gatherings in favor of poring through the book.

If you're looking for a fascinating read on a trip most of us will never have the opportunity to experience, or perhaps a gentle suggestion for a Christmas gift, you really can't go wrong with this book. Highly recommended!

"It´s a friggen motorcycle, it´s not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you s**t your pants every now and then. "

Tiffani (author) had planned to do a long-way-round type trip through Europe and Russia, and in fact would be on that trip right now, but the virus has shut all of that down. In the meantime, she spent some time narrating her books, so they can now be bought as audiobooks, and now she's off moto-camping through Arizona.
