MoniMoto 7 GPS Tracker/Alarm (VIDEO)

Post by WingAdmin »

I actually had planned to review the previous version of this device last year, but shortly after I announced it, it was discontinued. It was replaced with this unit, which is a much improved, smaller (and cheaper!) version.

Essentially, the MoniMoto 7 GPS Tracker/Alarm is a tiny, battery-powered box that you hide in your motorcycle. The batteries in it last for up to a year, and can be replaced with two common lithium AA cells for about $5.

It also comes with a little battery-powered keyfob. If you move the bike (or hit it or sit up on it, etc) without that keyfob nearby, it goes into alarm mode. At that point, it actually CALLS your cell phone to alert you, and begins transmitting a GPS position every five minutes to the app running on your phone. If the bike is put somewhere that it can't receive GPS, it still sends a position derived from cell towers.

If you accidentally leave your key (with the keyfob!) in your bike, and the bike gets stolen, you can still put it into alarm mode from your cell phone, and it will begin tracking once more.

It actually works REALLY well! I'm pretty impressed with it, and it's now installed (hidden!) in my bike. Here's my video review:

How sad it is that there is so much technological crap out there that doesn't work, crashes, some features work intermittently, performance is poor - that my expectations are so low for EVERY product.

The result is that when I come across a product like this that actually does what it says it will do, perfectly, and the software app actually works, every time, right from the start, that I'm actually blown away.

that is so true....
the only time I will be needing that, is next summer when I go up to Custer, SD for the NASR-14 rally.

the little Piaggio MP3 is so tiny, that it can be rolled up into a trailer, or tilt bed in about 1 minute.
no need to start it at all.

I am going to get the heaviest carbon steel cables I can find to lock the wheels.

this GPS tracker will let me sleep easier.

Probably a dumb question, but here goes anyway; can we expect this device to work as well on a truck or trailer?

As long as you don't enclose it in metal (it wouldn't see the GPS signal) then yes, it should work on pretty much anything you can hide it inside.

Its not that the technology is crap, its the manufacturing that is crap.

No, in a lot of cases, the technology is junk to begin with, and even the best manufacturing can't save it. When a company puts out great technology, well-made, but with bug-ridden software/firmware running it, you might as well just have it be a piece of junk hardware, because it's going to operate that way.

In your example, I agree. Perhaps I should elaborate on what I mean is crap. Not exclusively meaning poorly made or a bad implementation due to fiscal considerations (i.e. selling for a particular price point aka very cheap).

I don't use this product but it has a great review online. The rating of it is 4.8 out of 5.0 which means it's a good tracker.

If you didn't buy one of these because you balked at the $199 purchase price, I just saw that Amazon has knocked $40 off, and they are now $159:

You know, one of the big disappointments I had was that nobody noticed the bogus comments page I showed at the 14:27 mark in this video. :)

Got mine last month, and enjoy increased peace of mind, knowing it's there. Armed and ready.
Seamless setup, simple usable app.
And yes....it works when tested, every time.
Hopefully it's never needed.

Can anyone recommend an alarm system that includes a tracker as part of the package?
