How far in 24 hours?
This is a rhetorical question. The reason I'm asking is because of something that happened in 2005. My wife and I had just finished two weeks in Colorado. We woke in Canon City, and took the train through Royal Gorge which ended about noon. After it was over I asked her if there was anything else in Colorado she wanted to do, we both agreed it would be best if we could just get home. So we left the train station parking lot with the intention of being home ASAP. On that bike ('79 GL1000) it had the perfect seating/handlebar position for the driver. I could sit upright with a straight spine and my arms relaxed. I could ride for days like that. We had a new Corbin seat so everything was perfect downstairs too. We rode for the rest of that day hitting it hard and through the night until about 2:00 AM when we got a motel room and had about four hours sleep. We hit it again the next morning and rode hard the rest of the day. That afternoon found us near Decatur Tx and I pulled off the highway to a field of nice grass with large shade trees. I felt fine with the perfect riding position of that old 1000. My poor wife laid in the grass writhing in pain and in tears. She had obviously ridden too far. I'd pushed her too much. She had a disk problem or had developed a pinched nerve. I didn't know. I told her I was going to put her into a motel and ride the 60 miles home and come back for her in the car. She refused, and after a while she climbed back onto the bike and we finished the journey back home. How many miles do you push a middle aged body on the bike in 24 hours? I had the benefit of the handlebars to support myself. She was just sitting, leaning on the sissy bar pad with only her feet on the floorboards to support her. Two middle aged bodies, fair shape, no real excess fat. One was fine but the other broke down. How many miles per day is enough?

Re: How far in 24 hours?
Presently my wife and I regularly ride 6/700 miles on our trips. Not every day but if we are trying to get somewhere we can ride that far. Tired at the end if the day but the ride on the 1500 is easy. Another good thing is the extra tall Tulsa shield. Keeps the wind from killing us. I know this is blasphemy but I hate the wind in my face on long trips. Just wears me out. There was a time when I could ride 1000 miles easily. The longest one day ride was 1150 miles from Florida back to OKC. The weather now has a lot to do with how far we ride. If the temps are pushing 100 we ride early morning to mid afternoon. So no extended rides when it is HOT. I can't handle the heat anymore. No where to hide.
I too agree that the 1000 fits my body better.

Wind beating on your face is very tiring, even if it doesn't feel like it. The tall Tulsa on my 1500, while hot in summer, is fantastic for long distances.
My limit on my 1100 was about 6 hours, as my knees would be so sore that they would be stiff and hard to walk on. On my 1500, I get none of that - the only thing that stops me on my 1500 is the eventual need to sleep - with the Corbin seat, I can just go forever.

Wingadmin, yes! When I first bought my 1000 it came with a really nice LOOKING seat. Probably a JCWhitney. The foam was deteriorated and virtually nonexistent. In a half hour of riding we were sitting on bare metal with a layer of vinyl over it. Terrible! I bought a Corbin and found that I could ride for days in perfect comfort.

I start getting really tired after 12 hours on the bike, just like clock work...

Re: How far in 24 hours?
Tonight I'm going on my wing outside the European Union - to Ukraine. Altogether few km. to drive for about 700 in one day, on Tuesday, I have to be at work. Everything would be easy just that when you cross the border to go back about 40 years in relation to the Polish and in relation to America about 100 years, so there are roads. I am almost 60 years old and after a broken spine will be a real challenge. After returning I will add pics of these wonderful drug.

I added in my gallery of photos from the Western Ukraine - please comment on whether that number was wrong revoked by 100 years of America. Placing the photos I promised residents of the area for which he allowed me to go on. Any comments send protest organizers to present to local authorities. Please support the protesters - unless you consider the state of the roads is OK not to utter. - Christopher

I don't think tires will last very long on those roads. You have to dodge the potholes and travel slow. Makes for good practice dodging animals. Ride safe.
