Just reading about everyone's riding plans and I got to thinking, I wonder how many times we pass right by each other and never even know it?
I got to wondering if there was anyway we might be able to I.D. each other as a member of Goldwingdocs. Maybe something like a dot or star or whatever, half way up the left side of the windshield near the edge? Something else perhaps?
Just an idea and if there's no interest that's okay. If there's a little interest, let's think of an identifying symbol and where it should be placed.
Am I standing out in left field all by myself?

Taking a quick trip this month from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach. Frome M.B. up the coast to Virginia Beach. I will be using 2 ferry's & ride the Outer Banks. Staying for 3 days & then back down to Charlotte. Total trip will be 6-7 days.

Anything you choose to be the symbol would have to be recognizable as 2 bikes pass each other.
That would make it needing to be large - something many would not want to be on their bike and make it look weird...
A special WAVE might be worthwhile....

Trip was going to start on the 10th. Then on the 16th, 17th, or 18th. Now the kickoff date is May 2nd or 3rd.
Situation at work & his mother is having back surgery on the 21st, so I'm not going to give him a hard time about it.
The funny thing is when we first started planning a trip, I told him the end of April or first part of May would probably be the best time to go.
I'm curious to see what happens come May. My wife says she'll believe it when She sees him drive up in the driveway.

Saw the photo you posted, then I looked up some more of my own.
Sent them to my ex-boss and now we're planning on leaving here on April 10th for Big Bend. Will take a couple two or three days to get there. We may go ride the Three Twisted Sisters in the hill country first. :D
I rode the sisters last year on my Shadow. It does have some vicious curves.
Anyhow, there's supposed to be a motel on the west side of the park and Jerry wants to stay there at least one night.
So if you're gonna be down there during that time period, I'll be on a red 1500 SE and Jerry rides a black Harley Heritage Softail. Stop and say hi. :D
Sorry I missed your post about Big Bend. We will "probably" make the trip in early May. We will ride into New Mexico and stop and re-visit Carlsbad Caverns. We have been there once before but only made the short excursion. This time we will take the longer tour. Then on to Big Bend for a couple of days. We have also ridden the Twisted Sisters a couple of years ago. Very nice riding roads there. We are riding a black 1500 and pulling a trailer. By the way, Over at the Saunders site they have a method of identifying other members and that is flying a yellow ribbon or banner. But nobody does it however.

I don't know what would be a good symbol, emblem or whatever. Something that wouldn't interfere with vision or operation of the machine.
Rotating my finger in the air is how I try to let on-coming riders know the police are ahead of them.
Also need a symbol/emblem available nationwide, like a happy face.

Oops! Hit the submit button before I was done.
What about the emblem representing your favorite football, basketball, baseball team? There would be a lot of different symbols but if the placement was uniform, that would be a way to tell.

Dingdong, looks like I'll be headed down there the first part of May also, (if it doesn't get changed again). I'll be riding a red '94 SE and Jerry rides a black Heritage Softail.
Jerry wants to spend at least one night in a motel he found on the west side of the park. Otherwise we'll be tenting if that's permitted. He's already expressed concerns about rattlesnakes down there.

Anyhow, I'll look for you and maybe we'll run across each other. :D

My trip plan so far for this year is riding from Wichita, KS to Norfolk, VA, then up the coast to Maine, coming back down along the northern border to Niagra Falls, crossing through Ontario to pop in to see my Dad in eastern Michigan, then winding back to Wichita somehow.
That sounds like the trip we took a couple of years ago. Only we started out just west of St. Louis and went to Niagra Falls first.
This year we are planning on a family reunion in Carbondale IL. the second weekend in June. After the reunion we are planning on spending the week ridding around, no particular place to go and end up meeting up with friend in Branson on Friday.
We have kicked around the idea of trying to see how many grist mills or water falls are in Arkansas. Anyone have a list?

In the last year or so, my daughter has taken up sign making. She buys old wooden pallets, knocks'em apart, sands them down, nails'em back together and sells them.
Her calligraphy has been getting better. I'm thinking of having her paint "GoldwingDocs" on the inside of my windshield, just above the vent. I can ask her. Getting her to actually do it might take some time. Anyhow, that ought to stand out! :D

Headed north first week of June. Trying to get as much off the to do list as i can beforehand.
Tires, brakes, wheelbearings, alt etc. Headed to Seattle from Morgan Hill Ca. about 900 miles. Meet up with friends who have a trip across WA into Idaho and then down into Oregon planned.
Drop off somewhere near Bend and head south home. Trying to pull all that off in about 9 days as I am not retired. Really looking forward to it.

Hi Bobsiler, I saw your post about your 2016 Planned Rides and Trips and I would be remiss if I did not recommend
a road I've ridden a couple of times in both directions from Lewiston, ID to Enterprise OR. Since you mentioned you
will be riding WA into Idaho and then down to Oregon, you must ride Rattlesnake Grade also known as Hwy 129 and
then Hwy 3. Check out this link to learn more. Believe me, you will not be disappointed. Make sure you watch the video
and check out the attached pictures too!

Ride safe.

I took a look at the map my buddy sent me and it appears that is the very route we are taking. Thanks for the heads up. Now i just need to put the bike back together. I've had it apart for a week after running into a problem with the font calipers. Waiting on parts.

I asked, short answer, no.
Think I'll just get the peel and stick letters and put "Doc" left of the vent on the inside.

Getting everything ready to go and getting anxious to go. Discovered the cigarette lighter socket didn't work. Dead short, somewheres. So I cut those wires out and wired in two power ports today.
One for the GPS and one for the cellphone. Can use one or the other or both at the same time. :D
Just wish I had a cover for the trip. Some things got to wait, the feds want their tax money first.
Anyhow, on the 1st I can get my new AGM battery and I'll be ready to roll!

Still planning on leaving the 2nd or 3rd of May, right now. However, all that rain coming down in Texas has got me a little concerned.
With people, horses and cattle having to be rescued from flood waters, Texas isn't sounding real inviting right now. I know Big Bends a fair distance from Houston and that area but I'd sure like to see some dryer weather in Texas, as I'm sure they would too.
So I'm still planning on the first part of May but I'm keeping an eye on the weather down there. :D
May have to make a plan B. :D.

It's not just Houston. Those same fronts are running all the way up here and to the northeast. Here in OKC we have had 6 inches in the last 72 hours. Hopefully by then it will be all over.

I saw how they're running all the way up in to Oklahoma. They're also drifting, slowly, in to Arkansas.
Haven't heard much about flooding in Arkansas and in the N.W. corner here, we're not getting much at all.
Guess all the rain is being dumped in Oklahoma and Texas before it gets here.

Anyhow, Houston was probably what was on my mind since the last Weather Channel report I saw was talking about that area.
Didn't mean to "dis" anyone dealing with flood problems. My wife and I have also felt the grip of fear while watching rising floodwaters approaching our home.

With less than a week to go, it looks like it's going to be a go! :D
Went ahead and got my new AGM battery and been making my list of things to pack. Got to go shopping for a few items then start bagging things up.
Looks like it's going to be a rainy weekend but next Monday is looking good! :D.
I'm hoping nothing comes up between now and Monday!

Well it may be the only trip I take this year will be the one I take when I just pack up and leave.
Jerry's mother went in the hospital for a back operation. That went fine. She was doing well until her heart stopped. They got her back. Diagnosis is cardiomyopathy. (Have no idea what all that entails).
She started doing well again. Then pneumonia strikes. Its not looking good at the moment.
All of Jerry's vacation time may be spent at the hospital, and that's fine. We have time to talk about a lot of things.
He will go back to work eventually and I'll go for a ride somewheres. Maybe Montana, that's sure some pretty country up there. ;)
Weather will be warmer but just got to stay with Jerry right now.

Sorry to hear about Jerry's mom's health problems. I'm assuming that Jerry is your friend that you were making the ride with. I was looking forward to your trip to Big Bend since we will be making the same ride in three weeks. I'll give you a ride report.

Well stuff happens! Trip to Big Bend postponed. Our old dog is not doing to well. 13 year old Lab. I hate to leaver her behind with someone, to maybe pass on while we are gone. Oh well!
