It is a definite go. Bluethunder is working on accomadations. Hopefully we will have a bigger turnout this year although we had a nice size group last year. The more the merrier. Hope you can join us. Met some really nice guys and gals last year

Hi all,
I attended last year's event and had a great time. Met lots of great folks and developed a new friendship. I have blocked off Sept. 13 - 16 for this year's ride and am looking forward to it. I live in Niagara on the Lake, ON, Canada and would be happy to help from a distance so let me know if I can. Be happy to call hotels, plan rides, etc. If anyone is going through Buffalo or Niagara Falls I can put you up on the Canadian side Wednesday night so we can ride there together on Thursday. Same on return trip. Let me know. I'll keep checking this thread.
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your offer to help. We have a couple of guys researching a suitable motel. Details will be posted soon. Will keep you mind.

On another note, check out the MidWest ride in the Upper Peninsula Michigan in July. Its right in your neck of the woods.

Thanks. I looked at it and, unfortunately, we have company that week but I appreciate you're mentioning it.

Cheers,

Jim

Hotel for the 2nd Gathering Info:
Sept 13-16, 2018

Hampton Suites - Parkersburg South
64 Elizabeth Pike
Mineral Wells, West Virginia, 26150

304-489-2900

A block of rooms have been reserved under the name "GoldWings Docs" group. Mention the group name to get the room discount
The hotel has Free Wifi, free hot breakfast daily, outdoor heated pool, and plenty of parking for those who plan on trailering rather than riding.

Rooms are non-pet, non-smoking, double occupancy. Room rates are $95/night (discounted $55/night for us) for double occupancy. Find a roomie and the rate is $47.50/night.

Please be aware that you must reserve your room no later than September 3rd. After that date, rooms are available on an available basis and at the then available rate (i.e. no group discount). Also note that you have until September 11th to change or cancel a room.

I started another thread to make motel info easier to read and find.

Have we got a consensus on campgrounds yet for this year?

Quote from Goldwingsdoc - July Newsletter: "The Hampton Inn in north Parkersburg is our central gathering spot, with free hot breakfast, a pool, close access to I-77 and many restaurants, and we should have a campground set up shortly for those who choose to camp. Hotel rooms at our special rate are going quickly, so I'd suggest booking soon."

As a NC resident, I love the Fall and Winter for touring! Summer is too hot!
Southern VA and WVA is beautiful and I was planning a trip to Dayton to the Air Force Museum.
Perhaps this could be considered as part of a tour using Parkersburg as a jumping off point.
Other: Bluefield VA, Wytheville VA, and Marion NC are great places to ride.
Marion starts the fantastic Marion to Tazewell Route 16 Back of the Dragon ride.

Thoughts?

I went ahead and reserved a Double Queen room for 4-nights. (Sept 12th and leaving Sept 16th)
I reserved using the block of rooms that Brian reserved for us under the "GoldWing Docs" group name.
The $95/night rate did not include the 12% in taxes for the Gov so total for one night comes to $106.40 or 1/2 that ($53.20) for each of us. Not a bad price at all for such a nice hotel and with a 'better-than-average' breakfast.

I still don't have a 'roomie' so if your going and are willing to share a room and expenses, give me a shout.

The rides will be in the Hocking Hills area of Southwest Ohio and Northern West Virginia. The Motel is in WV.

My wife and I were thinking of attending the 2nd Annual gathering. Is there a formal schedule of activities? What time rides depart, vendor area opens (if any), any other activities that might be planned? Is there at least one ride per day? How large of a group was in attendance last year?
Cost to Register?
Sorry for the 101 questions
Thanks for any input.

Brian

Hi Brian,
If last year was any indication, there's NOTHING formal about this group! A few people have some ideas as to where we might ride, but as far as I know, nothing is set in stone. Most likely start daily rides about 9:00am. No vendors, no activities as such, lunch a diner somewhere, maybe drinks at the hotel afterward. Probably just one ride per day - all day long :D . Last year we had 17 bikes, and 23 people. I managed about 600 miles for that short weekend. There's been no discussion about registration fees, just show up (maybe give another Brian (Blue Thunder) a thank you for setting up this years gathering).

Hope to meet you there!
Jeff

Brian, by all means come and attend. You will have a blast. Good roads, good food, good people. You will make this an annual pilgramage.

1st, no cost to register. Just reserve a hotel room.
2nd, nothing is strictly formalized. We generally leave to ride at 9am. Breakfast is free at hotel, so figure to eat at 8am.

Rides are done each day, except Wednesday at that is when some people begin to arrive. Group attendance lasy year was about 16-20 depending on what day they arrived.

And finally, ask as many questions that you want. Them come!!
