I'm considering riding my 83 Aspencade to Sturgis this summer. I've had the bike for less than a year, but it has proven reliable to this point which seems to lend credibility to the PO's description of the bike, its maintenance etc. However, a long trip in summer heat is a different ballgame. Is this a fool's errand? I'll be solo (unless anyone wants to join me!) and then meeting up with folks and camping once I'm there. I'll take 2 or 3 days to get there to try to limit stress on the bike (and me too I suppose). If I do it, I'm thinking I should join the Goldwing Association (or whatever it's called) so I have roadside assistance, or maybe I can add that to my existing policy.
I've done the appropriate modifications to the charging system and will take a jump pack with me along with tire kit etc. Carbs are good. Brakes are new. Runs like a champ.
Thoughts?

Just go, worrying about it will cause you more problems than the bike will.

Go for it. If the bikes in good shape there is no reason it won’t make it. If you are worried about heat I would suggest getting a cooling vest and a vented jacket. A MasterCard will take care of just about any problem. Enjoy the Sturgis shenanigans. Love the area but definitely avoid it during bike week.

I second the motion, go for it. Took my '85 LTD on 3 tours last year, two of them being with the better half. Longest was 5200 Kms (approx 3000 miles or so). All the maintenance done that you can, then you have VISA/MC. 2500 mile round trip to Sturgis, no worries. Be a good trip.

I agree.. go for it. I ride my '76 Wing back and forth between AZ and MI, no problems other than the seat.

Thanks everyone. I was more worried about the bike, but at 80k mules, it'll outlast Me I suppose. I've got a couple cooling towels and will carry water.
