I too wish I could make it. Things got out of hand here at the homefront. So hopefully next year.

Be sure to take pics of all the bikes there.

Hope all have a safe and enjoyable time.

Thinking about the gathering. I thought I might be able to make it but alas no. Enjoy.

I had a great time. Wish it lasted longer but have to work to keep the toys running. Made it home safe. Happy traveling take care till we meet again.

Just found out from the GoPro forum that the GoPro 7 Black will not video and charge at the same time. The suggestion on the forum is to remove the internal battery and use a charging brick instead. I wonder if I remove the internal battery and plug the camera directly into the charging unit on the bike if that would work. I will try that this morning and report back. I am amazed that GoPro would design the camera that way.

Had a great time on the gathering. Great rides and fabulous people. Many thanks, again, to Brian and Al for all of the work they did in organizing it. I know that they spent MANY hours working on it. I look forward to next year's gathering.

Reporting back on the latest attempt. Tried removing the internal battery and powering it directly from the running bike. No joy! I guess my only alternative is to buy a 20,100 milliamp power bank and use that as my power source so the GoPro 7 will run a lot longer. Trying to get 5 or 6 hours without changing batteries.

Do any of you GoPro geeks have any other comments or suggestions?

Cheers,

Jim (BPMJim)

Wow, what a ride! If you weren't able to make, boy did you miss a fantastic ride!
It was great meeting old friends and making new ones.

It would have been nice if the motel informed me when first contacted that the pool and outside tiki bar is closed after Labour Day, the stay none-the-less was comfortable and convenient. The inside bar and restaurant provided many drinks with excellent food choices.

The weather cooperated most of the time, with rain in the late afternoon for the last two days. Fortunately, the rain was brief.
So many twisty roads threading its way through the green lushess mountainsides. Even the Dragon was beautiful.
(Yes, that's me!)

Saturday's ride to Little Switzerland and riding the Diamond Back was scrubbed due to inclement weather. Instead, we rode the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Cherokee and up to Gatlinburg, TN where we had lunch. Coincidently it was the same restaurant (Texas Roadhouse) as last year (different location of course). Great food...

Parking spaces were $6 per space but no sign to indicate HOW MANY vehicles could occupy the parking space. We crammed four Goldwings into each space. Gatlinburg lost a little money that day :D

Just have to say, the gathering was GREAT. This is the best group that knows how to have fun after the ride and to ride safely but quickly during the ride. Drove straight thru on the way home; 12 3/4 hours up I-40 to I-75. Will definitely come again next year where ever it happens to be held. Thanks so much to Al and Brian for all their hours of preparation that came to a fantastic fruition.

Brian,
What is the torn up tire from? Hope it was not your trailer.

Great pictures. It was a great time and great riding.

Looking forward to next year!

Fortunately Em it wasn't my trailer tire. It was a fellow biker who was traveling to TN when the tire shreded. I helped change the tire in VA after I alerted him that his tire was on fire!

Brian, at the Saturday night dinner, asked for any feedback on the rides or the gathering in general. Everyone is well aware of the issues encountered with various types of GPSs and the routes, so I am sure there will be a very concerted effort to correct those issues before next year's ride. Since everybody was talking about it at some point, but no one has mentioned it here, I thought I should. My being a professional follower this year, it didn't affect or concern me at all.

I did hear one other comment that I thought I should mention. Even though the splitting up into three groups worked very well, there was some concern with the leader not being able to communicate with the tail-gunner and in one case we lost a person from the group and if both had a CB it might not have occurred. I bought a hand-held CB a year or so ago but never hooked it to my helmet. Not sure what, or if, there is a logical solution to the issue, but just thought I should get the creative juices flowing.

The rides were great and no one had any mishaps! The curves on Tail of the Dragon did get a bit repetitious but I was glad I had done some parking lot practice to prepare for them and also glad that I stayed in a lower gear for those the turned into uphills. The Cherohala Skyway was the best ride of all!

I did have a friend from Maryland tell me that he and his son rode the entire Blue Ridge Skyway (489 miles) in 2014 and, since everyone I talked to at the gathering liked the portion of it that we rode, maybe such a trip might be an option to consider for next year.

As it turns out Corky, the Wise/Tazwell VA area is being considered for the next location. It is close to the northern part of the Blue Ridge Parkway as well as the Claw of the Dragon.

CB is being investigated but the cost to implement and integrate into rider's existing comm systems is pricey and a bit problematic. On straight roads Cardo and Sena systems work well. Riding in and out of mountains is a whole different matter. This subject should be discussed in a separate thread.
