Is the center stand obsolete?

Post by tom84std » Sat Feb 21, 2015 11:12 pm

Until recently, every bike I've ever owned has had a center stand. The stand on my 79 Goldwing was a little bit difficult to use but once I got the hang of it, it was alright. On my 84 Goldwing, it was a lot easier.
Last summer I bought the VTX and was a little disappointed to see that it had no center stand. Not long after that I got my wife a Virago. No center stand. The Virago didn't work out so I ended up with a Shadow 750 for her bike. Again, no center stand. Is this just the way it is now?

I doubt they'll ever disappear from the Wing.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

My buddy has a BMW K12 LT with only a center stand. No kick stand!

On some bikes they are offered as an optional extra now.

To me, they are a necessity!

All Harleys don't , nor offer center stands.

Having a center stand makes a lot of work easier on the bike, that said the center stand on my gl650I is nearly impossible to use by myself; trying to put it up on the center stand is the only way I have tipped the bike over so far. Not a easy task to get it up on that stand.

The base model F6B does not come with a centre stand. You have to upgrade to get it.
