2018 Goldwing Update

Post by thunderwing »

October 24th is when new products will be announced, according to this article:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/new- ... wing-2018/

A 5 part teaser video series will introduce and tease new Honda products with this being the 1st spot of the 5. Notice the GL1000 thru out and a far shot from above that ends the video with a goldwing.....perhaps the newer 2018 wing.

Either way there is a date set in stone for seeing the future of goldwing evolution....

LEAKED PHOTOS of the 2018 Gold Wing

Post by landisr »

A friend shared this with me, and it 'appears' to be legit. Check it out for yourself:

http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-new ... tures-leak

From the view of the dash, I see the word 'tour' suggesting there may be different ride modes.

Sorry for the generic topic title below. I was tired when I posted it last night.

Now just wait 15 years until I can get a good used one, with my luck the 1500 will still be chugging along ;)

Hi, Thunder. You might want to check out my post about leaked photos. It kind of looks legit. What do you think?

Whatever it is, it will not be a Goldwing. More like a Pan 1800, with the cheapest suspension design, in the hands of people who want to build it for a tenner.
anyone expecting better, will find if they spend a tenner on design, they will cut a tenner from production. Bleedin cramped as it is, its like sitting on a garden bench.
If at first you don't succeed, hide the evidence.

Cool, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Nice to see the FB6 looks unchanged. I want big easy to reach buttons, toggle switches and menus suck. Why have an electric windshield, makes zero sense, weight/complexity for no gain. I like fuses and wires, easy to fix. Helmets come with Bluetooth why put something that will be outdated in a year on a bike when it is on your phone or GPS. More adjustable suspension, ok, but the factory settings are dead on for the average fit person 5'10" ish 155lbs ish. Amazing standard breaking system that for all practical purposes negates the need for ABS. Huge cushy all day comfort standard seats. Best stereo out there. Gen 2 1800 has the best wind management of any MC ever made. I am quite happy.

Is it me, or is that a take off of the Wind Bender wind screen? Looks very much like the one that my son has on his 1800. I rode his 1800 to Colorado this summer , and is amazing how little wind buffeting you get from it.

None of those "photos", which they aren't.

Have any relevance to what Honda will release for 2018.

Nice to conjecture as to what Honda, "might do", but that is all it is.

I have to agree. Pure speculation, but fun. What I would like to see most would be a major diet imposed on the GL so that it was say 150 plus pounds lighter. My 09 GL1800 is a sweet bike to ride but at its 900 pounds it is just one very heavy bike. BMW can make the K 1600 GTL at about 760 pounds for a similar price so we know it is possible. Just my $.02.

IF this is indeed the new bike, the front profile is not as wide which looks like a wetter ride. Except for the cutaway view it looks like no case guards; where will we mount highway pegs and deflectors?
I hope the handle bars are adjustable cause it looks like they are closer to the rider now. Maybe okay for some but what about us knuckle dragging guys? I know small feet is like an aphrodisiac in the Japanese culture but my big feet in boots makes it almost impossible to shift, please let there be a heel/toe shifter option that wont void the warranty! Square speakers? Because there are thousands of square upgrade speakers out there; right? I truly do hope for more gears tho...always looking for 6th.
Having had my front wheel lock up and wash out on me, I would like to see ABS as either standard or an option for every model. The fact that ABS is only on available on the top tier model is wrong. I personally can't stand the way Honda makes decisions on what you can and can't have. I know it speeds up production but it still sucks. Don't even get me going on the limited color options!

If it is in fact a DCT transmission (and with Honda offering DCT on many of its bikes now, there's no reason to expect otherwise), there is no shifter - you shift by pressing buttons on the handgrips, or shift it into automatic and let it take care of the shifting for you.

It would also likely be coming with ABS standard, as all new motorcycles over 125cc sold in the EU are mandated to have ABS standard.

This information pertains to the models being shipped to India
2018 Honda Goldwing details revealed
The Honda Goldwing is the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship touring motorcycle and it is undergoing a complete makeover for 2018.

New details reveal that the standard bike along with its bagger version will have new names. The F6B ‘bagger’ will be the 2018 Gold Wing while the standard, fully-equipped version will be called the Gold Wing Tour.

The 2018 Gold Wing will have two variants, the GL1800BD and GL1800B. One variant will feature Honda’s DCT and one will get a conventional gearbox. The Gold Wing Tour will get three variants. The GL1800 will feature a conventional gearbox and the GL1800D will get the DCT while the GL1800DA gets DCT with an airbag.

All the variants will use a Euro-IV compliant 1833cc in-line six cylinder engine that produces 124bhp. The outgoing models use a 116bhp in-line six engine. All versions are electronically restricted to 180kmph. The Gold Wing Tour now weighs 42kg lesser than the 2017 model, bringing the kerb weight up to 379kg. The airbag version weighs 383kg. The 2018 Gold Wing is 14kg lighter than the standard bike and weighs 365kg. That is 27kg lighter than the current F6B.

Interestingly, the DCT does not add any extra weight. The Gold Wing Tour is also shorter than its predecessor at 2575mm. The current model measures 2630mm. Both the bagger and the standard model have a wheelbase of 1695mm and are narrower at 925mm as compared to the 945mm on the current bikes.

Wow, real professional leak ZAN. So what's 180kmph? And since when does the outgoing Wing have an in-line six? And since when would 124HP push a bike this size to at least 180mph?
Nice troll.

Nice troll.
This is a direct copy from the Indian article at http://tinyurl.com/y8o4l35e and I can not be responsible for the authors clerical mistakes, nor did I think it my place to correct them.
Most likely it was translated from Hindi into English and some things got lost in the translation. However I didn't think that I would have to explain to you like a child, but here goes.
To answer your question; "So what's 180kmph?". To start, it is not unknown to see km/h written as "kmph" with the "km" standing for kilometers and the "ph" for per hour.
So 180kmph = 180km/h or 180kph or 111.847mph or 111.847m/h or however you care to say it, I don't care.
And your question, "And since when would 124HP push a bike this size to at least 180mph?". An intelligent person would have asked "And since when would 124HP push a bike this size to at least 111.847mph?"
I hope this has answered your questions.
Have a nice day ;)

OK, you got me, fair enough. Although in years of riding and living overseas, I've never seen kph expressed as kmph.
A couple things are suspect here though. As I mentioned, I personally don't believe Honda would put out a new Wing with 124HP.
And two mentions of an in-line six just don't add up for what appears to be a legitimate motorcycle site.
As far as a speed governor for all models shipped to a specific country, yes, that's possible.
