Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
Thanks to both AZgl1800 and doxbike. I was hoping to avoid watching miles of video so as to catch widely scattered details. The tip about BD being a bagger with DCT is very helpful and a great start. The Owner Manual refers to the model numbers, so if you don't know what they are, it's not as useful as it could be. By putting some effort into a decoder (or maybe even a helpful Honda rep could just TELL US the answers), the world would be a better place.
Thanks Folks!

GL1800DJ
GL18TD
GL1800BD = GL1800 "bagger" (no trunk), DCT

GL1800D = GL1800 Tour with trunk, DCT
GL1800DA = GL1800 Tour with trunk, DCT, Airbag
GL1800DJ - I believe this is an internal Honda code that is the same as GL1800D? All the references I see to it online refer to a bike that is actually a GL1800D
GL18TD - Same as above - all the references I see to this online refer to a GL1800D

Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
Howdy Mr. WingAdmin!
Thank you for the very helpful response. The rig I just purchased is a GL1800D (Tour DCT) sans Airbag
In case it is useful to anyone else, the GL1800DJ designation appears on my Warranty Registration and Pre-Delivery Certification form (with the two tear-off Owner's Identification Cards at the bottom. Where I find the GL18TD designation is on the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin in the Series or Model section beneath the GoldWing Tour DCT ID. I'm still curious to know what the 'J' and the 'T' mean (at least to Honda) in the model numbers.
Since the manual addresses peculiarities of the various models, it would be awfully nice of Honda to just tell us what they are, instead of putting us through all this extra, unnecessary work. Having access to some smart people through this site is a very welcome advantage. I've really enjoyed reading the contributions. Thanks to all the folks who take the time to write!
We sure are looking forward to our first good ride with this slick, new rig. But first, there's a lot to digest in the manuals.

Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
Here’s a million dollar question. The stuff AFTER the letters. I’m having a hard time with that. For example, my 2019 DCT Tour for the US market should be GL1800D AC (because it meets all 50 states). But what’s the difference between AC and IIAC, which both state 50 states? So it could be GL1800D2AC. I ask because I’m simply trying to get a saddlebag cover but each color has a distinctive part number and none of they what. I should just give up and ask Honda.
I’m not old, I’m a classic.

Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
On another forum I saw an explanation that 2AC (IIAC) is for the blue model with stripes. The AC is for red (Candy Ardent).
The question that I didn't find answered is what do the parts diagrams for 3AC go with? It is really hard to compared parts diagrams and find the difference.

I beleive 'A' is for USA, and 'C' is for Canada.GoldWing808 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 11:01 pm But what’s the difference between AC and IIAC, which both state 50 states? So it could be GL1800D2AC.

And to add to the confusion, I'm a new user from Texas with a 2019 red DCT tour and both my bill of sale and title application call mine a GL 1800DK.

Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
Here is what I know. In my world, which deals with servicing GL1800s, I've learned this. It seems at Honda each "department," if I'm using that word correctly, comes up with their own coding system to identify GoldWings. For example, the Service Manual often labels them one thing, and the parts fishe something completely differant. I beleive the OP is ask for decoding from the "sales division." And maybe it'd be better if we divided the departments by literature. The Service Dept. deals with model indentification found in a Service Manual, the Parts Dept. deals with model indentification found in the parts fishe, and the Sales Department deals with model identification found in an Owner's Manual. In all 3 of those manuals, their can be different model codes, to represent various models, and from manual to manual the model codes can be different. I beleive all 3 manuals have a page that identifies "their" models.
Another eample, and I wish I could think of one right now, but a Service Manul will call a part one thing, and the parts fishe will call it something completely different.

Re: 2018 GL1800 Model Number Decoder
GWG: Thanks for that. It will help me since I am a first time Honda owner and don't recall parts, sales and service using difference references on my Harleys and Yamahas which are my most recent bikes. I'm really liking the GW DCT and recently sold my FJR with the YCCC so the transition has been seamless.
