Wind Protection

A new Goldwing was following me on the freeway this morning. By the looks of the movement of his jacket, it appeared to me that the windshield was not giving him much in the way of wind protection. Does anyone have any experience that would contradict my observations? Since I ride in cold weather that is down in the low 30's, I like to have no cold air blowing on me.

Correct. The new GL1800 is much narrower (to reduce weight and wind resistance, which increases mileage so that they can reduce fuel capacity, saving more weight...). There is less protection against wind. That said, there are factory "wind wings" available, and I'm sure there will be some windshield manufacturer that comes up with a big wide windscreen soon.

I have a F4 windshield for the winter months but suspect that I will be using the stock one during the summer. I also installed both the upper and lower wind deflectors. This bike does not have as much wind noise as the GTL that I traded in.

I use the OEM Upper Wind Wings, mainly this past FL winter to direct air outward from my shoulders-they do very well at this. They don't direct air onto you-only away. I have not purchased the lower wings as I have no need for them. I drove through a Toad drowner last year and my lower pants leg mid-shin level got damp, I'm sure the lower deflecters would have pushed the rain more outward. Needless to say, I am very satisfied with the OEM Windshield. In this driving rain storm I had the shield almost all the way down looking over it and no rain hit me and actually pushed the rain up and over my helmet no visual issues at all. Yes, I was very impressed after that ride with being able to drive 70mph with total confidence with the Bridgestone OEM tire in (Rain-Mode) and not one issue with fishtailing all the while pulling my Buschtec Trailer. But, I will admit the 2012 GL1832 has better wing protection (which I hated in FL summer, the 2018 Allows just a breeze to splash onto my shoulders and arms, I just open the vent my Jacket sleeve and catch a nice cooling effect as the back vents are partially open for exhaust. if it was a new wing '18 or '19 it could be that the power windshield was in a low position. when i'm riding the Mighty ST 1300 I usually get up to expressway speed then raise the ( it's powered too ) windshield until there is no pressure on my helmet, my jacket will still move some though

Change your windshield i did it works wonders there are many to choose from these days. Plus i would use the Baker Wings Products good stuff plus they back there stuff and you can buy individual parts and pieces if you need them.

There are many after market windshields and wind deflectors available now that will direct and condition the air around your body. Some will work better than others. I use Show Chrome with a F4 windshield are these the best? I don't know but they work for me.

There are also many GoldWings that are actually GoldWings. and not a 1800 Pan with a GoldWing badge

I am using a Show Chrome tined shield 20 inch love it works great a lot less buffering plus for hand wings and all others i will use the Baker Wing Products great company they offer a lot parts and accessories for stuff.

I use the Baker Built air-wing Products there very friendly and offer a great variety of wind protection good customer support and they offer many parts and pieces if you need them down the road.Not like other companies who will force you to buy the a complete new package here you can get what you need.
