Yea, he was sick about it. He's had it back several months now and put a few thousand miles on it now and so far so good. I would have thought that Honda would have replaced the engine rather than replaced the case.
A new engine would be more expensive than a replacing half a case. No?

I would look very closely at the piece that broke off. Especially for signs of it being used as a jack point by some incompetent "mechanic".

At a $100.00 per hour plus the chance of a mechanic reassembling something wrong and the ramifications of that I just wonder if that's the logical fix.

Haven't looked under mine yet, but is that boss present on the DCT models?

I'm not sure. My string of wings doesn't include a 2018. The bike I'm speaking of belongs to a friend.

The crack surface in the case should be examined for any potential small inclusion in the casting that could lead to a stress riser. The case does look thin in the area. This looks to me like an area of the case that will take intermittent force loading during shifting. One incident of a rock is unlikely. Two similar incidents of a rock hit extremely unlikely. Three incidents astronomical odds. If three or more such failures get reported it is likely a case design issue in my opinion.

That's why I thought this would be the perfect forum to try and get this out in the open and see where it goes. Thanks for your inputs.
