Did I get screwed?

Post by Redwing822 »

They say there’s a sucker born every minute. I’m wondering if my dealer saw me coming when I bought my 2018 goldwing a week ago. To verify- I was told the only option on my non tour model wing was the GPS, and thus I was charged $699.00 for it, and that included the first year of use. I smell a rat. Is GPS standard equipment? Thanks.

I do not believe GPS is standard equipment, but on the 2018 model, it may be. It never was on previous years, on basic models, but was included on upgrade models. That said, if it was on the bike as equipment, it was not dealer added, and so should have been included in the basic price of the bike. Are you sure it was the GPS that you paid for the first year of use on? There is normally a charge for XM radio after normally the first three months free trial. GPS is free to use by anyone who owns a GPS, although firmware and software updates do cost a pretty penny. Not knowing exactly how or what was charged for, I cannot tell you if it was extraneous. I do know that when I bought my GL1800, there were no extra fees over and above the price we settled on, except for the all intrusive taxes.

GPS is standard on all the new 2018 + Goldwings. So is 10 years of free map and firmware updates. Maybe they sold you a CB, list price for that is $699.

Thanks Mike... I did not know GPS were standard on all models. Now I do. Awareness raised.

If it was me, I would take my bill of sale to the dealership and ask them about this charge. If it is an erroneous charge, then ask for it to be refunded.

And we would appreciate the name of the dealer so we can stay away.

And after it's all resolved you should let American Honda know about how you were lied to and cheated by a dealer.

This would be Ridenow in Vegas. Rather ironic name, as they made me wait 3 hours before they had a goldwing ready for me to test ride (seriously, how long does it take to come up with a battery and a gallon of gas?). No effort was made to get the DCT model prepared either, that they said I could try out. I very nearly walked out the door, and in retrospect, I should have. This is not how you treat a customer who shows up, ready to purchase one of the most expensive bikes on the floor.

I was not permitted to test ride a brand new Goldwing at the dealership where I bought mine. I asked at another dealership four hours from here and they also would not allow it. I find it unusual that they would let you test ride a brand new bike. Also, if I wanted a brand new Goldwing, I could not go into my dealerships here and ride away on one same day. I had to make an appointment to have them prepare the bike I wanted, and pick it up on the day they said. This has been true with cars and trucks I have bought also, as well as a Harley I bought from Barnetts Harley in El Paso, Tx. Every one of the dealerships with the exception of KIA for my wife's newest car, treated me with respect and dignity. However, no walk in drive out visits for new vehicles.

Still makes me wonder how many others didn't check on this and the dealer kept the $700.

Did they give you a reason for charging you in the first place?
