Seatback options for 2018 DCT

Post by Touristas »

I love my 2018 DCT, but my back isn’t what it once was, and for longer rides I REALLY crave some add’l support. If there were an adjustable option, that would be WONDERFUL. The Honda accessory seatback is small and doesn’t appear to be adjustable fore and aft. Is there a better one that fits the stock seat?

Thank you in advance if you take time to respond. Each tip is greatly appreciated.

I put a Utopia on my wife's PC800, and would highly recommend it. They make one for the 2018+ GL1800. High quality, adjustable, and looks OEM.

I 2nd the Utopia, have one on my 1800 and can't live w/o it

had one on my '98SE,
on a '94SE it had the old style with the swiveling brackets to the side of the seat.
World's worst design ever, and very uncomfortable.

I have a 2010 GL1800 with the seatback from Tabbs. It is adjustable up/down and fwd/back. I would imagine that there is one available for the newer models.
It can be lowered completely onto the driver seat to make it easier for the passenger to get on and off. It is also removable if desired.
You can check it out at http://www.tabbsonline.com/
A good adjustable backrest makes a long distance ride much more enjoyable.

I installed the Utopia on my 2018. While I don't think it's the best looking back rest available it is hailed as one of the most comfortable. I'm quite happy with the comfort, but not keen on the looks.

I have the Honda backrest on mine and like it a lot. It is adjustable for and aft, just not very tall. I'm 6ft. tall and it is enough support for me.

so does the Utopia just lift out if you don't want it on the seat for whatever reason?

No, the Utopia Seat doesn't just lift out. You'd have to remove the seat to remove the back rest and you would require tools.

Utopia has two mounting options.
1) is a hinge mount, which is what I bought.
to remove it the seat has to come off, and you remove a couple of bolts underneath the seat. very easy to do. ( hinge mount allows it to fall forward down onto the rider's seat )

2) is "removable mount":
this one is made to allow the under seat bracket to stay in place, and the backrest can be lifted up and off so a pillion passenger does not have it in front of them...
Still, if you sell it, you have to remove the seat and remove the 2 bolts down underneath.

Removing the Utopia leaves two small holes on the bottom side, and a slit in the seat upholstery on the top side. Utopia supplies a piece of sticky material to place over that hole to protect the edges of it so it does not rip or tear. It is so minor that most people would not even care about it.

The install process requires that you use a long knife to slice thru the top upholstery thru the seat base. It is not hard to do, but makes you nervous the first time you do it.
