I am pondering the purchase of a Wrecked 2018 GL 1800..
It is at an auction and would have to be purchased sight unseen..
It appears to have been laid down on its left side At speed..
I have never worked on this model of Goldwing. I can see that the Valve cover is busted.
My question to the group... WHAT other Engine case damage can your experienced eyes see??
Bolt on parts can be replaced.. Engine damage render it useless to me..
from these photos I don't see any engine damage beyond the valve cover...
But with the broken front fender I might add a small possibility the front suspension may have gotten "tweeked" a little. You probably won't know that until you put it on the road though.

On October 1st of last year I had to lay my 18 DCT bike down was cut off buy a 80 year lady. Her insurance paid over 9000.00 in repairs and medical for me. Cost me 8200.00 for repairs about a month in the shop but its running like new just a lot of tubber wear repairs if you can do the work your self. You can save a lot would be worth it to buy. Ride Safe Ride A Lot.
As a dealer I buy wrecked bikes all the time so it is important to know what to look for prior to paying as once you commit it is your baby. In price you have to add in transport, tax and auction fees and make a list of what parts will be required then plan on the worst. I actually think I know where this unit is being auctioned and while I will not bid on it I see a damaged cover but no damaged head It may need a coil and may require some creative polishing as the head does appear to be scratched a bit. My biggest concern would be the high priced and hard to find plastic. I tend to only buy older 1800's as the parts are plentiful and inexpensive. I am seeing a lot of crashed DCT wings which on a side note is concerning.
The front end structure on a 2018 GL 1800 is frangible, i.e., it is designed to fail in a substantial impact to absorb some impact forces. I'd check the front end structure very carefully. Can't be cheap or easy to repair. Plus, what about the frame itself?
The front is not designed to be fragile rather is subject to damage as is the standard double tube systems. I very much doubt there is any damage or damage on the frame. Fact is if there is any frame damage the title will be noted as JUNK. Junk title is non-repairable and can never be titled again. Most insurance companies will scrape any bike with junk title or sell as parts only. 99% of all damaged bikes are cosmetic and frame damage is a non-issue.
Could be significant expense all new shelter/fairing if headlight assembly in also required 5 to 6 k. Remember there is a reason that a 30k bike was totaled
You are so right - on all these sales they list the value of the bike plus cost of repairs (including labor) so you have to determine if you can repair the bike minus your labor and save or will it be a repair done by professionals where you may actually invest more than it's worth. Personally I will stay away until eBay or salvage yards have plastic on sale at reasonable prices.
Here is a salvage bike I just bought for $500, as you can see it's pretty bad but as usual no frame damage so only salvage title and cost of repair by me parts only is under $300. But this is a 2004 so parts are cheap and plentiful.
This is a 2018 with minor damage 5900 miles value at 19k repair est 22k - Looks pretty good to me however I wish it was red
I am looking to buy a newer GL1800 with DCT for a custom project.
I will not be using ANY of the plastic body..
I need only a running chassis...
So machine with body damage only would be ideal for my needs.
I have been watching my local salvage auctions.. Near Knoxville TN.
BUT NO DCT models have been seen..
So I have forced to expand my search radius.
I HATE buy anything sight unseen!! There is significant potential for hidden damage.

Yes you have to have it shipped but that's not a big deal. As far as getting a look all I can say is study the pix and cross your fingers. It's also important to know they don't care how the handle the bikes or how they get loaded. Most of the ones I get have missing plastic that the workers toss or steal and they bike may be loaded on top of a car carrier with a forklift so you may have to skid it down the ramps sideways. As I say you have to be creative but it's still your best bet.
Remember if your going to do the labor you will save a lot of money just need to order the right parts mine went well my dealer was able to get a hold of my parts quickly. Turns out I have had my bike apart a lot since my crash and would not hesitate to do it my self now. Nice price great bike go for it Ride Safe Ride A Lot
