Push start possible?

Post by Redwing822 »

Just to satisfy my curiosity, and maybe to know in the future if I have a low battery-

Can you push start the 2018- if the battery is too low to crank it? My thought is the computer may have to see the normal starting sequence before ignition and fuel injection are enabled.

Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Push started my '08 1800 when I had it. Starts very quickly. Wasn't enough juice to turn the starter.

You might be better off carrying one of those lightweight jump-start battery packs.
Taklife do decent quality ones. I bought a fairly substantial one a few years ago (maybe off Amazon) when I had a Mercedes V8 SUV, rated to start that up. I never used it on the Mercedes, but have used it many times on our old farm tractor and on my old GL1500 Wing. It came with several different types of leads, so is versatile enough to be used for several other mobile low-volt electrical tasks, like as a battery pack for smartphone charging, lamps, airbed pumps, etc. It also has a torch and an emergency red light function.

You cannot push start any fuel injected vehicle if the battery is dead. You need battery power to make the injectors work to inject fuel into the cylinders.

In the Owner's Manual it says not to try.

"Jump starting using an automobile battery can damage your motorcycle’s electrical system and is not recommended. Bump starting is also not recommended."
