DCT issues

Post by minnsnoman »

This is a trike, but I don't think the issue is trike related. I just purchased a 2018 DCT with 2400 miles and a new Roadsmith trike conversion. About 5 minutes into my first ride I stopped at a stop light, the bike made a small clunk and died. I turned the switch on and off a few times. The bike clunked again and then started. It did this every day, always first thing in the morning. Once it did it, it would not do it again that day. One day I rode about a 1/4 mile and stopped at a stop sign, when I took off it acted like the emergency brake was on (it was not) I got it to a safe spot and turned on off and rolled back and forth, clunked again and started, a few feet to the next stop light it died and restarted twice after turning off and on. Was fine the remainder of the day. Because it was always within a few miles in the morning I thought it could possibly be the reverse, so I quit using reverse when I parked at the end of the day. Did not help. I started warming it up for 5 minutes in the morning that seemed to help. One day I rode 80 miles and stopped to take off my rain suit, when I stopped it clunked and died. It would not re start, I then noticed a lightning bolt, a plus sign and a brake lever on the display. I held down the starter button and pulled in the brake lever, it restarted. One other time I saw a brake icon on the display, I pulled the brake in and it restarted.
My last few days in Florida I warmed it up good and it did not do it, a few times I could tell by the sound (loud rattle) it was ready to die, so I held the throttle open a bit to keep it from stalling.
There is also a rattle or minor knock in the engine, and a vibration. The rattle is much worse when the bike gets hot. I had an 06 Wing so the unusual vibration was the first thing I noticed.
It is now at the dealer, but they are not sure how to proceed. They put it on the scanner and it shows no codes. He also checked all the major grounds, the oil, and initialized the clutch. The dealer has been riding it, and of course he can't duplicate the problem.
I did a warranty search, and it has no warranty history in the 2400 miles before I purchased it, and before being triked. Any ideas?

just a comment....

making your Post just one long sentence impedes our ability to read, or comprehend what you are saying.

I lost interest half way down the screen, :?

Sorry, I'm not an English major, just trying to explain the frustrating problem, and looking for help. If you don't want to help because it is not written properly, so be it.

I looked up the Roadsmith website and there's a good bit of info there that may help you.
You can download the DCT Goldwing conversion owners manual. I'd give them a call and
maybe there is an authorized Roadsmith trike shop near you?

I will check it out, but the dealer and I have both spoke with Roadsmith about the problem. I live about 100 miles from Roadsmith, so I will probably stop to see them when I get the trike back.
Thank You
