DCT engine noise

Post by minnsnoman »

This question is related to my recent post.
The dealer working on my bike is telling me engine knock, rattle, noise??? and vibration is normal. I have now listened to 5 other DCT Wings and there is absolutely no engine noise and no vibration.
Do some of the DCTs have unusual internal engine noises and vibration?

Thank You,
Greg

I can only speak of the 2002 that I own, and all of the other 2001-2017 models.

they all have Camchain noise.

the 1800s do not use a cambelt, it is a chain, and chains are noisy.

I have never heard a lifter tap/click on my bike.

"some" 1800s have had noisy alternators, bad bearings, or in the 2001-2005 models, there were a few that had an alternator drive gear "ADG" that gave trouble. Mine never has.

The first time I rode my 2018 DCT at slow speed and without a helmet the noise made seemed a precursor of bad things to come. My wife then rode it and also said take it to the dealer ASAP. Dealer said noise in normal. When I ride bike with helmet no significant noise. No mechanical issues after 3 years but the shifting noise and engine noise are not as quiet as I expected.

After I reprogrammed the DCT at a few thousand miles the noise is less and it seem the 2021 DCT may have some design changes to help the noise?
