Add Trunk Kit to 2018 Non-Tour

Post by denstl »

Has anyone added the Trunk Kit to their Non-Tour model? After buying my 2018 Non-Tour I kept finding the need to carry more or be able to secure my helmet and jacket when I was away from the bike. So I added a Shad top case. Very functional, flexible and holds a lot. Super easy to put on or take off. I am especially not crazy about the looks of the Shad rack when the top case is off. And no easy way to use it as a rack to secure anything to it as there are no open slots. Really liked the clean look of the non-tour when I bought it. Actually, I really liked the price I was able to get vs the Tour model, too. Having a little buyers remorse now and wish I went with the tour model, but too late now (trading in on a new one not an option right now). Thinking of adding the trunk kit instead of the Shad. Still won't have all the nice features you get with the tour model. But I can live without them. Looks like it is in the $1,600 range if I install it myself (I probably would not install it myself though). Has anyone added the trunk kit to a non-tour? And if so, are you happy with it?

Yes, I have the Tour kit on my 1800B. About a $2600 addition here in Canada, loaded by self. Well worth it. Can go back to bagger style in about 2 hours, reload the trunk in about 3 hours. Really like it for several reasons, first one being it still looks like a Goldwing, second being that I'll get my money back on sale due to the versatility of style. Alternately, if the buyer doesn't want to pay for it, I'll sell the bike as a bagger and sell the Tour kit, albeit discounted, to someone that wants a passenger couch on their bagger.
