Dash Air Temperature Guage Issue

Post by dbtroudy »

I just bought a 2018 GW Tour with 5,000 miles on the odometer, so a relatively new, low mileage bike. The only issue I have had with the bike is the ambient air temp guage on the dash is reading anywhere from 5 to 20 degrees warmer then what the true air temp actually is. How do I know this, I ride with two other 2018 GW owners and their air temp gauges are reading much lower than mine. Today for example, the other two bikes were showing an air temp of 82 degrees while my bike was showing 99 to 100 degrees.

I did a search of Goldwing Docs and have not found any other reports of other’s experiencing this issue. I’m guessing that I have a bad air temp sensor somewhere on the bike. Can anyone assist me in finding the right part number for a new air temp sensor and where is it located on the bike?

Don

SENSOR, OPEN AIR TEMPERATURE
37890-MKC-A01
$37.92

Looks like it's stashed up front in the faring, on the sub harness. You might check that something isn't directing air from the radiator or engine to it, making it read high.

I bought a new air temperature guage sensor from WingStuff and got around to installing it today. I had to remove half of the front lower fairing, rear view mirrors and large fairing side panels to get to the two bolts that hold the upper air deflector in place. Once I disconnected the sensor from the bike’s wiring harness, it was easy to install the new sensor. It took all afternoon to remove the various panels to access the sensor and put the bike back together.
