fairing wiring
I just rewired the headlamp and turn signals from the headlamp bucket into the vetter fairing and discovered that I am not an electrician. now I need to locate a good mechanic to find out what I did wrong and fix it. What ever I did has caused a dead short and the main fuse heats up rapidly after I turn the key on and the starter will not respond. any sugestions in the northeast Ohio area?

Re: fairing wiring
Give Accurate Cycle Service a call. He does a lot of work rebuilding GL1000's, and he's not too far away from you. A good, trustworthy guy.

Re: fairing wiring
What type Vetter fairing is on your bike? You have evidently crossed your wires and if you haven't done it yet, unhook whatever you did.
For your 77 the front wiring is as follows;
Right Front turn signal should be Blue/White and the other lead is Green ( signal must be turned on to check )
Left Front turn signal should be Orange/White and the other lead is Orange ( turn signal on to check )
Headlight should be Blue for low beam and White for high beam
According to wiring instructions on the Vetter site;
From the fairing plug, 9-pin
White = High Beam
Yellow = Low Beam
Black = Ground
Violet = Left Turn signal
Dark Blue = Right Turn signal
Green = Running lights
Red = cigarette lighter or other option
Brown = accessory
Orange = accessory

Re: fairing wiring
Thanks for the reply D2D. One of the senior electricians from the refinery stopped out and staightened it up for me (right after a long lecture on mechanics doing electricians work. (A union joke). Cant wait to take it out for a day of fun. Its a good thing to have a site like this with good people on board.
