Gremlins in key swicht
Good days and, again, sorry for my bad English. I think I'm going to make an addict to this forum because in my country are few we have gl1000 since the first model I counterpart was the gl1200 and the mine there is little information, I'm completely self-taught with the help of a French book MOTO REVUE. Seeing that this forum is a good place full of experts, I have a problem electric I have in my gl1000 you when booting is not serious but not normal. I think that the problem is in the ignition key switch, and what happens is the following: in position "off" all right, in the "acc" position lights oil light and neutral position, "on" lights oil light and neutral and must set the right light switch at position ¨L¨ to be able to operate the starter motor so you can only boot with light. In "p" like that in "on" position but I can get the key with the bike started. Appreciate that someone to tell me what should be the position-color of cables in the key switch because I suspect there is the problem because the connector is a little dark. Thank you all

If you search the web, you will also find a European version of this but I do not think you will need it for your ignition question. Do remember the contacts on this switch do wear and need cleaning. Replacements are also available.

Hi gwlegg
Is this what you after the wires from the switch for a gl 1000 1978/9
Looking at the wires going to the switch. With the connector still plugged in
The top row of wires from left to right Black—brown/white---brown/white
The bottom row of wire is from left to right. Red----green/black-----brown
There are two brown/whites as you can see. the one on the top row is for the parking lights not sure what the other one is for. It could be some think for the running lights
This is how the wires are on my 79 gl 1000
These are as if you where sitting on the bike
