I have a gl1000 took it to a shop for tune up and fork seal replacement. They installed electronic ignition rebuilt carbs and now the only way this bike will run is if im priming the carbs. Can someone please advise as to problem or where to start looking
he told me it would idle but wouldnt rev over 3000rpm i cant even get the bike to idle.
Thanks KDM

It all goes back to the three basics. Compression, fuel and ignition. Your description sounds like there is no fuel unless you prime it. Are you saying it runs for a short time after a prime and then dies?

yes that was the problem. i pulled the carbs off readjusted floats and walla the bike now runs and revs. in the process of readjusting the timing and then sync carbs. it will idle at 2000 rpm but not below . I guess i can kiss that 800.00 by-by i will leave it set until i can work on it next time

Sounds like they got it retarded too far. Mark it for future reference and advance it until it idles up. I'm sure you can then warm it up, shut it down, then back off on the adjustment until it starts easy when hot. Be sure to adjust your idle as you go, you'll likely have to bring it down a bunch as you've got it idled up pretty high as is.
If your problem persists you can always check it with a light, or just line it up like it was before.

My 1100 was doing that. I pulled the carbs and ran a guitar string through the jets and sprayed them out with carb cleaner. The hole through the center was even clogged on two of them. My bike idles at 850 RPM now! I fix everything myself on my cars my house you name it! I have paid someone else to do bad work too many times in the past!
