intermittant power loss
I was riding home from work today 70+-mph and the engine started to lose power. I could hold speed but it sounded and felt like a lost one or more cylinders. Then all of a sudden it smoothed out and I took off again like nothing happened. This happened 3 times before I got home(about 35miles). Sounds electrical right? Any Ideas where to start?

Re: intermittant power loss
Is it points or electronic ignition. I had issues getting good clean power to my 1984 Dyna III and getting off the blinker power feed and to a solid 12V source (a relay) helped but in the end one of the pickup coils was failing and a new Dyna S was needed. But now she is solid again. I would sometimes have an issue where she would start on 4 cylinders, immediately drop to two (need to coax out an idle with full choke) then about 8-12 miles out finely hit on all 4 for the remaining trip. Confirmed as electronic parts too old.

Also, check the main ground cable where it bolts to the frame.

Re: intermittant power loss
my first thought was fuel filter plugging up.

Re: intermittant power loss
My bike is a points ignition. I'm not sure if this was the only issue but it seemed to be. I was going to check my grounds and found that the positive battery terminal was loose. I checked the grounds and they were tight. It hasn't messed up since so that must have been it. Thanks for the input.
