Re: 79 gold wing
If it is an OEM Honda head gasket then all is well. Aftermarket gasket tend to fail readily. Worth the money for Honda parts for the water pump and head gaskets.

Not to jack the thread but petarm1 I see you are in Rycroft, AB. We have friends up there who ride a Goldwing trike.
I've got a 1979 Goldwing here in pieces. It is the motor donor for a 1975 that I have. My winter project. After that is done I'll be going through what's left and parting it. Let me know if you need anything in the future.

If the PO hasn't replaced them yet be sure to replace the timing belts. And you can't inspect them as even if they are original they will look new. Replace. Good luck with the project. Keep us informed as to progress.

Sounds like a good plan, be careful with the rubber parts as they take their toll from time and not from miles. And there has been lots of time.
