78 Back from paint
Well I finally got around to giving my 78 a paint upgrade. I think I might add some artwork to the shelter side covers...maybe. But it's looking pretty sweet. Had it painted to match my Hummer. For some reason the color was a little off but it's still an eye catcher. I replaced the rear brake with an led type and keep the turn signals off the bike to keep it smooth looking (which is oddly legal in MS).

Very Nice !!!! You're lucky, in Ga if its a 1972 or newer it has to have turn signals, found that out the hard way after a frame off restoration me and my brother did on a 1974 Harley electroglide and decide to not go back with signals.

Where I live some cage would run you over for sure. Nobody can see you hand signal at night!

Re: 78 Back from paint

Re: 78 Back from paint
The work you have completed is excellent and you've created a really "tasty" machine.
Question: are your fenders metal (chrome) or a plastic material? I know the side covers on the tank are not metallic. I note you (powder coated?) painted the hand rail behind the seat. That's a chrome part. Did you take these items to a pro shop and have them strip the surfaces and prep for the painter. What were the steps you went through? Also, thanks for sharing your fine work with those of us who are distant and probably never be able to physically admire it.

Re: 78 Back from paint
The grab bar and fenders are the original chrome. They should be powder coated.
I removed the leather off the top shelter for it to be painted black and yellow.
I decided to keep the honda logos off the bike but left the goldwing ones on.
I took all the parts to a paint shop and they did it all for $170.
when i get some more cash I'm going to buy a cafe style seat. The one on it is a custom one i did...i like it because it keeps me low.

I also put on led brake lights. And other led lights for night visibility. Spots on front.

Re: 78 Back from paint
I like your yellow better than the Hummer yellow. Nice choice. And the amount of yellow and black looks perfect to me.

Re: 78 Back from paint
I've decided to paint some bates saddle bags and put them on. The question is do I paint them all black or give them the yellow lid?

Re: 78 Back from paint
All Black. Yellow trim is okay but I think yellow lids is over the top. But a yellow graphic or stripe may work fine. Nothing wrong with all black.

Re: 78 Back from paint
I think I'd have the lids reflect the color scheme of the faux gas tank. But even if you do nothing you still have a winner! Thanks for asking for opinions. I never get a chance to design anything

Re: 78 Back from paint
I was thinking something to reflect "tank" or maybe just a simple yellow pinstripe. Probably think on it for a while.

Re: 78 Back from paint
I was going to suggest the same thing - a yellow stripe or something around them as a highlight.JellyBelly wrote:I was thinking something to reflect "tank" or maybe just a simple yellow pinstripe. Probably think on it for a while.
