Starter Button Questions
Hello,
I'm working on a 1977 GL1000, and I'm putting in the throttle cables when *ting ting* I see a ball and spring fall out of the starter button switch. After an hour or so, I reclaimed them from the dust pile that is my garage floor, but quickly learned that I have no idea how to put this whole setup back together. Any advice?
Please pardon me if this question has already been answered - I searched around for a while and didn't find much.
Thanks!!

Re: Starter Button Questions
Generally, this shouldn't have happened. They're not in the habit of falling apart when you separate the handlebar control. I would be dubious about putting the switch back together. I'd recommend replacing the switch.

Re: Starter Button Questions
Thanks - that's typically my first instinct, but it worked just fine not five minutes before. Just without a throttle cable.

Impressive article. One to remember.
Still, not for nothing, I can still see how a lot of people will still be intimidated rebuilding the control switches. Them part's is a small.
And, like was said in the article, if you lose a part, you're pretty much fubared.

Thanks guys. It appears as though it needs to be replaced. There's a piece missing (not surprisingly).

Re: Starter Button Questions
Mine crumbled apart inside. I put a radio shack button in there temporarily but the lights won't dim when you crank it. I replacd all my switches and my handlebars after the bike was in a fire!

Yeah, looks like its gonna be radio shack for me too. Honda said they can't order it, and the local salvage yard doesn't have any either.

Re: Starter Button Questions
If you want to do a Radio Shack switch, that's fine but, whoever you spoke to at Honda is incorrect. That switch is still available from Honda. Go here.
