My name is Paul and I live in South Dakota. I am 35 and have been riding since I was about 12 on an old yamaha that a buddy gave me.
Well I have been off of 2 wheels for several years now (far too long). A good buddy has a 78 Gl1000 he is giving me (same guy that gave me the yamaha). All I have to do is put it back together. I haven't had a rebuilder project in years. I am excited. I am sure I will be here looking for helpful info and troubleshooting and probably some part identification once I get it home and get the boxes of parts laid out and sorted. Only down side is he doesn't have the trunk or side bags but I am sure I can find some easy enough. I can't wait.
Well that didn't work out. Was supposed to pick up the 78 yesterday but everything fell apart in the morning. Help bailed on me, guy was out of town the night before and wouldn't answer to phone to verify if he was home. With a 3 hour drive one way to pick it up no way was I leaving without knowing he was home. Now I will have to see if I can get another friend to deliver it for me.
Bummer, get her home fast. Naked 1978 GL's are sweet looking too. So consider convertible luggage options too. This bikes know how to scoot around too, and no bags are required.
