Exhaust Headers
Exhaust Headers
Anyone know of a source for exhaust headers? I have a 1975 Wing and the headers have given up after 204,000 miles. I'm running Harley stock mufflers on it.

Re: Exhaust Headers
Because Honda no longer offers them for sale, your best source is eBay for a used set. When buying a used set, make sure to ask the seller to look into the interior and ensure you that none of the 'inner wall' has collapsed. This is not unheard of and you don't want to get a set with this problem.

Re: Exhaust Headers
Thank you. I prefer a new set, at one time Hooker, Jardine and a host of manufactures sold after market headers. Mac Performance has a complete system, but I don't wish to take that route. Old and picky, but the bike and I have shared and enjoyed a lot as a team and it runs better now than when it was new.

Re: Exhaust Headers
The only 'new' headers are an aftermarket set made by MAC and, they're pricey. Here's a pair on eBay for $240.

Re: Exhaust Headers
Thanks, again. I found a used set at a salvage yard and they wanted $150. They are still over 35 years old and I'm more than a little leery. We have a good exhaust shop in town, may have to convince him he can make a set!
Re: Exhaust Headers
I was able to find a complete exhaust system at Willie's Cycle Salvage in Camp Hill, AL. The price was good, as was the service.

I wonder why those wouldn't fit a 79...
Re: Exhaust Headers
I am pretty sure all GL1000 headers will interchange, the '75 didn't have chrome heat shields on them as the others did. That's the best of my memory, anyway.

Re: Exhaust Headers
Gl1100 headers fit also, as do GL1200 headers. I have a set of 1200 headers but I did not use them as they were a bit tight to the oil pan. But they bolt up just fine. The 1200 headers that have separate tubes like the picture above fit better than the set I have. I ended up ceramic coating a set of GL1000 headers both inside and out for about $90.

Re: Exhaust Headers
I realized it's been 10 years since your post, but new headers/pipes are available from Delkevic.

I just upgraded my '78 after discovering I was one of the few with the rare factory internally-collapsed header.
