I have convinced myself that I need to richen themidrange just a tad. I am wondering if I can pull the tops off.the carbs without removing them from the bike? Thought I would ask before tearing stuff apart.
Thank you, in advance!

It is easy to leave the throttle cable on, rotate the intake runners up on the opposite side then pull them to one side and remove the caps.

Yes, not every heard of an issue with rotating them even on bikes that have sat. Now old rubber is just that, and has limited life but a rotation is pretty easy on them.
