When restoring my GL 1000 K3 (1979) have I found a relay that is connected as shown on the attached document.
Is there anybody that can give me an explanation of this modification ?.
“To Keep Or Not To Keep” is the question.

Keep it.
It's there to bypass the switched ignition feeding the regulator.
Its purpose is to provide the regulator with the voltage that is on the battery rather than what is on the switched circuit. It can be just a bit low(0.4 to 1.5 volts)
Bypassing with the relay will better control the charging volts .
Without it,I've seen charging volts exceed 15.5 volts and "boil" a battery dead.
Double check that the 3 yellow wires next to the battery have also been serviced( soldered).
Its a common weak spot.

To the left of the battery..)those 3 yellow wires...it's the heart of problems with the charging system.
It's recommended by most to cut the plug off and throw it far away then solder the wires direct.
That connection usually corrodes and melts.
While your here, just type in "3 yellow wires" in the search tab then read all about it.
