Local gl1000 parts
I just picked up my 78 GL1000 today (pictures coming tomorrow) I am starting with the basics. Battery, oil, filters, timing belt, etc. I am having trouble finding out what local auto stores carry these items. Can anyone recommend where they go locally in their area for certain basic needs?

I have found that Advance Auto has a few parts. Oil filters, plugs, might be able to get belts.

Napa carries the timing belts. You can probably get them at any auto parts store. Oil, I use Rotella. You can get it pretty cheap at Wal Mart.
I use a spin on filter, I put a adapter on several years ago.
Be careful with the gas filter as there is a lot of junk out there. I use one of Randakk's filters.
I have the same bike as you, the 78.

Re: Local gl1000 parts
Thanks for the help guys!
Here is what I came up with so far
Advance Auto parts - Had the oil filter, oil and anything else generic I needed.
Autozone - Generic
Pepboys - Generic
Napa - Timing Belt, Generic
*Sidenote, I purchased one of Randakk's fuel filters as well.
Where did you get the air filter adapter from?

You can make your own air filter with one of those foam/oil type. I had one but didn't care for it.

Ah, gotcha. I misread that. Yea, I saw the oil filter adapter and plan on getting one as well. But for now its about getting it in running condition and then one project at a time from there.

Another good source is J.C. Whitney. They have seats to fit the older Wings as well as windshields to fit Vetters fairings and lots of other goodies.
