Fairing swap
Have a fairing in great condition off of a 1980 with the mounting bracket. Want to know if it will bolt on to a 78 frame gl1000.

You can make anything fit anything if you want to do a lot of work.chefjeff59 wrote:Have a fairing in great condition off of a 1980 with the mounting bracket. Want to know if it will bolt on to a 78 frame gl1000.
I've never seen it done but doesn't mean it can't be.
There's a zillion Vetter faring out there, cheap for a 78.
You just need the right mounting bracket.

Re: Fairing swap
Should of stated that it is a Honda fairing, the bracket bolts to the frame, unlike the Vetter which is held on by clamps

There's no place on a 78 to bolt it to.chefjeff59 wrote:Should of stated that it is a Honda fairing, the bracket bolts to the frame, unlike the Vetter which is held on by clamps

Go to a local and honest machinist with your bike and your fairing. Should be relatively simple and cheap. Metal stock and a bit of welding.

Re: Fairing swap
Find a Vetter with a bracket. They are much better. The fiberglass is thicker and much more durable! You can get them cheap because so many are being removed to make café bikes.
