1. Everything on the block and head needs to be flat and spotless. Take out the dowel pins and clean the area. Replace the dowel pins with new ones.
2. Replace the oil ring around the orifice tube.
3. Use copper coat gasket sealant on both sides of the OEM ONLY head gasket.
4. Lube the head bolts and torque them in sequence, 10 lbs at a time, to the updated Honda specs of 42-45 lbs-ft.
Question: Why are you only doing one side?

Re: parts needed for head gasket job?
I am only doing one side cause i'm stupid. I already just ordered one side, but wonder about a coolant gasket?more o-rings? and I thought I was NOT supposed to use sealant on the head gasket? Do I really need to replace the dowels?
And that is why I am asking the questions.

Oh I see the water pump cap has an o-ring, not a gasket.........I guess I will reuse it because i never ordered it.
Am I able to get the valves off as a unit? I mean not take the rockers etc all apart?
