GL1000 clutch conversion to GL1200hyd clutch
I have completed installation of a GL1200 hyd clutch into my 75 GL1000- Runs great, shifts very nice- TWO finger clutch pull- job is for the very mechanically savvy owner. My thanks to the Gent on the East Coast (I think) that came up with this idea. This is a good mod IF you need to remove your engine for the alternator- just gotta get it right the first time- cannot remove the clutch with the engine in the frame once this is done. Also requires some work with a lathe to cut down the clutch rod, and make a centering bushing. I will try to help with info if anyone wants to know more. And for all of you in the South 48--- We had almost NO snow here in Anchorage this winter- its the end of March, and everyone is riding here!! Dennis in Anchorage

Plan to do this soon. Bought a kit from Sunnbobb at NGWClub.

Re: GL1000 clutch conversion to GL1200hyd clutch
Hi Fred- I would guess that a kit from a good supplier would be pretty straighforeward (if you call pulling the engine "straight foreword") I followed the instructions from the guy back east somewhere(have info at home-am at work) and it went pretty well- I would recommend replacing the stator and renewing the starter clutch and starter too- Randakk cycle said something about the ground point in the starter motor also- Is this kit all in one package- clutch assy, cover plate, slave cyl ect? You know about the clutch rod having to be shortened? and using the 84 GL1200 rear cover- (only one that fits a GL1000 engine) Let me know how yours goes. Thanks Dennis in Anchorage Ak.
