I want to replace my original turn signal bulbs on my 78 GL1000 with LED bulbs and also while I am at it add a 4 way flasher function.
Can anyone give me some ideas on this project?

To work as desired, after you have installed the LEDs, you will need to have a flasher unit made for LEDs. They have a much lower resistance than the OEM incandescent lamps, and will cause the flasher to flasher too quickly. Just something to be aware of.

A couple ways to add 4 way flashers.
