Can anyone tell me if the transmission, and rear end gear ratios, are identical between the 1978 and 1979 GL1000 model years?
Thank you..................Dave

They're identical in all GL1000 model years.Solina Dave wrote:Can anyone tell me if the transmission, and rear end gear ratios, are identical between the 1978 and 1979 GL1000 model years?

Re: Gear Ratios
Yes, but........
If buying a used final drive, be aware that there was an after market kit made by Gem with lower ratio, in fact I believe they did two different ones. I can't remember offhand what the actual ratios were (maybe 3.7:1 and 3.9:1, perhaps? Standard is 3.4:1).
They are fairly rare but do pop up from time to time.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Re: Gear Ratios
My riding buddy used to have a 75 GL1000 back in the day and he put one of those lower ratio rear drives on his. As I recall it was a 4.0:1 ratio.
