rebuilding a 1100 engine to fit 1976 Wing
I am currently restoring a 1100 engine from a 1980 wing that will be fitted on a 1976 wing. Will change back cover to fit frame, install 1000 heads with 1976 cams, electronic ignition,1975 carburator jetting, carburator filter less air restriction and a 4/1 muffler.Just not sure about carburators maybe 1100 carbs better? Also can't find the right chart for new crankshaft and connecting rod bearing for 1100 engine. On engine casing the bearing code reads 1C 2C 3B and on the connecting rods 2D.Can someone help?

Yes-Google images, gl1100 bearing chart. It's at the top of the page. Fyi...you can use the bearings with the oil hole in them for the left and right sides-I did-works great-super oil pressure. I got mine from "Babbit on line". You can be creative if they don't have exactly what you want. Do not substitute the rings with the sazuki 1350 rings-the cylinder dia and thickness is the same, but the depth is way off. Also, goldwing rings are far superior in quality!

Not sure what happened-I was trying to edit...f1xrupr wrote:Yes-Google images, gl1100 bearing chart. It's at the top of the page. You can be creative if they don't have exactly what you want. The oil clearance is 20-44 millionths, but don't let that scare you-just do the rule of thumb thing-the engine is 36 years old (approximately .001 /1" dia journal-or less). Do not substitute the rings with the suzuki 1350 rings-the cylinder dia and thickness is the same, but the depth is way off. The suzuki rings are 2.8 mm deep, and the goldwing rings are 3.2 mm deep. Also, goldwing rings are far superior in quality! They are chrome, and I have reason to believe they are steel. The suzuki rings appear to be cast, with only the edge of one ring chrome. You may be surprised to find that-your old rings are still way within spec.

Better check bearing sources first. Con Rod bearings are scarce. I think Oldfogey's site ( Wingovations) has references and possible sources for you.

I have rings in stock and a few bearings, but it's getting almost impossible now to find certain sizes of both the mains and the big-ends shells. More so the big-ends. But check out what you need and give me a shout. I have a huge list of dealers that just might have something (but don't bank on it!)

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!
