Hi guys, new to the Forum,
Just about to pick up a '76 GL1000 with a Vetter Fairing installed, anybody interested in the Vetter Fairing, let me know.
I'm looking at restoring the bike and I am in need of suggestions and most likely help in restoring the engine internals as well as the external. I'm a 3 1/2 on a scale of 5 when it comes to engine internals as I usually deal with Gas Turbines. Space is tight in my garage as well. If you know of a great awesome mechanic who does engine restorations here in Houston, please, let me know.
I'd like to get the bike up to at least show quality and possibly Racer it up a little.
Help or pass the question around until someone knows of a mechanic in, around or near Houston. I live up in Katy.
Thanks guys.

Re: Need GL 1000 mechanic in Houston? Help!
If money is no object then go ahead but having it done will be very pricey.
I bought as a stored one owner 77 with 18000 actual miles and a non running project and it's all finished.
I have a ton of $$$ just in parts in it, more than it would sell for and I did all the work.
It runs great and looks nice now after I restored it mechanically.
If you haven't already bought your non running project and want a nice looking good running first gen wing pm me.
I would consider selling mine for a fair price and I live here in Houston.

Thanks for the offer but one reason I want this particular one is to strip it down to frame and work up. Cafe racer in mind. It's a 76 so be good to see it running. I am going to fix up Pistol Pete to get my carbs cleaned and tuned up in TN and hoping to find someone for advice on the engine here. Weekend project so to speak. Maybe you can come look see what I have to work with one of these days. I got other toys too. My Conours is my go to for road trips. Sadly had to bow out of one tmrw to go pick up this GL.

Thanks. I will get in touch with them and see if anyone can help with over the shoulder support on the engine.

Engine parts are almost impossible to find at this stage.rolandjude1976 wrote:Thanks. I will get in touch with them and see if anyone can help with over the shoulder support on the engine.
Cranks, bearings, etc.
If it needs those. it's often easier to find a good engine rather than the internal parts.
Sad bottom line is that Honda didn't support these bikes very well.

My son was born in 1976 he just turned forty ! The chances are the motor does not need to be touched These are very rugged motors, which is why there are so very many of them about If you think the motor needs internal work, walk away . ( most i would consent too would be a head gasket, water pump seals etc ) Lots and Lots of them are available Take your time. Randakk has an excellent blog on starting a new to you wing etc The more you know going in the better
Enjoy your new hobby/bike

Thanks guys. I spend a few hours every weekend stripping it. Just took the rear fender and tank off. Next will be electrical and then engine. Head gasket and seals are for sure.
